Product Introduction

L80-13Cr Martensitic Stainless Steel OCTG Product Introduction

1. Material Overview
L80-13Cr (UNS S41425/S41426) is a premium martensitic stainless steel grade specifically developed for oil country tubular goods (OCTG) applications. This material offers an optimal balance between corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, making it ideal for moderately corrosive downhole environments.

2. Key Specifications

  • Chemical Composition‌: Contains 12-14% chromium with controlled carbon content (≤0.03%) and balanced nickel/molybdenum additions (1.5-2.5% Ni, 0.5-1.5% Mo) for enhanced corrosion resistance
  • Mechanical Properties‌: Meets API 5CT L80 grade requirements with minimum yield strength of 552 MPa (80 ksi) and hardness controlled to ≤23 HRC for sour service compliance
  • Corrosion Resistance‌: Provides superior resistance to CO₂ corrosion and moderate resistance to H₂S environments compared to conventional carbon steels

3. Performance Characteristics

  • Temperature Range‌: Suitable for continuous service from -29°C to 175°C
  • Sour Service Capability‌: Complies with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for specific H₂S partial pressure conditions
  • Mechanical Reliability‌: Offers excellent combination of strength and toughness for demanding downhole conditions

4. Primary Applications

  • Production tubing in sweet and mildly sour oil/gas wells
  • Casing strings in corrosive CO₂ injection wells
  • Downhole equipment in moderately aggressive environments where carbon steels would fail

5. Manufacturing Standards

  • Manufactured to API 5CT/ISO 11960 specifications
  • Available in various sizes from 2-3/8" to 7" OD
  • Supplied in quenched and tempered condition for optimal performance
  • Can be provided with premium connections for critical applications

Note: Proper heat treatment (quenching and tempering) is essential to achieve the required microstructure and corrosion resistance properties. Material should not be used in highly sour conditions without proper evaluation.
